Sampling a Master Pit Wall for Pollen
Dr. Sally Horn, Department of Geography, University of Tennessee, collected and processed pollen in a transect from the base to the top of this pit wall. Pollen is very poorly preserved in the alkaline environment here, but enough was found to establish periods of aquatic vegetation, presumably coincident with the presence of Pleistocene Lake Manix. The nature of the Yermo Formation is well illustrated. T. Oberlander photo
